Groundnut - Land Selection

Groundnuts are grown in hot dry regions which are marginal for other pulses and groundnuts, giving higher yields than the latter on worn out soils. Sand loam soils are preferred for easier lifting.

Groundnuts are self pollinated, but to avoid physical admixture, a minimum isolation distance of 3 m from other cultivars being grown for certified seed and 5 m for basic seed is recommended.

The land used for bambara groundnuts seed crop should not have had bambara groundnut the previous season for certified seed and for the previous two years for basic seed.
