Soyabean - Land Selection

Deep and well drained soils, varying in texture from sandy, sandy loams to clay loams are recommended for growing soybeans. Heavy clays will also produce good quality soybean crops, provided they are well drained and germination is not impeded by soil capping.

Soybean is a self pollinating crop. Isolation is therefore required only to prevent physical mixture and the spread of diseases and pests. The minimum isolation distance recommended for basic seed is 10 m and for certified seed 5 m. A seed crop of soybean should have no history of soybeans, tobacco, sunflower, beans or potato.
