Finger Millet ( Land Preparation )

The seed should be sown into a well prepared seed bed as finger millet seeds are quite small. Land preparation should ensure that all crop residues from previous crop(s) are completely buried. One ploughing, to a depth of 15-20 cm, followed by one to two disk harrowing may be required to make a seedbed with a fine tilth. Ploughing should preferably be done during the off season (winter) in order to reduce further build up of pests and diseases and to decompose crop and weed residues from the previous season. Sprouted weeds should be incorporated into the soil before crop is planted.
